Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of food will I receive?

You will receive nutritious food on each visit. This will include both canned/packaged and including fresh food, such as milk, fresh produce, meat, and bread.

Can I choose the food I need?

Yes, we practice what is commonly called the shopping model, and we use a Basket Budget system; you will pick the items that you and/or your family will eat. We try to offer choices and a variety of food based on Canada’s Food Guide. You will be able to shop for non-perishable items with the assistance of our volunteers. We also provide fresh produce, milk, eggs, bread, and frozen proteins, which can include chicken, beef, pork, and fish.

Will I feel embarrassed visiting a food bank?

All clients are treated with dignity and respect. We do all of our initial intakes or first-time registrations in private to respect privacy and keep information confidential. Clients are expected to treat our staff and volunteers with the same mutual courtesy and understanding.
